Charlie Pike, a detective with the Boston Police Department, gets a call from his hometown in Vermont, asking if he wants to be their new police chief. It’s an appealing offer, but it would mean telling his wife Abbie, and eventually their kids Natalie and Marcus, about the “V’s” – the hundred or so residents of Vesper Glen with symbionts that make them live for centuries, heal rapidly from wounds, avoid sunlight and garlic, and regularly need to consume blood.
Even after Abbie overcomes her initial skepticism, and Charlie takes the job, she’s still apprehensive about her new neighbors, including leading citizen John Saxon, town doctor Meara Desmond, and night-shift Sergeant Ray Dante. Still, the family settles into small town life, sharing the ancestral Pike house with Charlie’s elderly dad.
Then a run-in with a biker gang gets the attention of an FBI agent, a hostile Army officer, a marauding band of V’s whose leader holds a grudge against John, and a secret society of fanatical vampire hunters. All of this will test the ingenuity and determination of the entire community …
Coryn Noble weaves a rich narrative tapestry that reinvents the vampire, and
raises questions of what it means to be human – or what makes a monster – through the eyes of a small town cop, his family, and his neighbors.
Author Coryn Noble appeared on the podcast Vamp Chat with Dan & Eva to discuss Vesper Glen and his own thoughts on the vampire genre.

A fresh take on my favorite subgenre, scientifically explained vampirism. … Suspense and action scenes alternate in a satisfying balance with character interaction and background lore. — Margaret L. Carter, Carter's Crypt

What a wild and clever twist on vampire lore! Vesper Glen blends small-town charm with a deeply original mythos, building a rich world of secrecy, tradition, and supernatural history. The characters, especially John Saxon and the V’s, feel lived-in and layered, and the story’s slow burn pays off in emotional depth and thought-provoking questions. Perfect for fans of grounded fantasy with heart.
Using a metaphor of a small city where vampires and humans peacefully coexist, this book brings an interesting discussion about fanaticism, extremism, and the fear of the different. I found it very contemporary in the times we live in. Not to mention the story is fast-paced and it will place you in a fantastical world that if you love vampire stories you cannot miss.
An absorbing and thoughtful read - I highly recommend this!
I love how [the author] turns the whole vampires genre upside down and makes them into relatable characters inside a rich setting and plot.
This is a really meticulous story, from the setting and characters to the various threads in its narrative. ... Definitely belongs up there with the best in the genre!
Vesper Glen is a fresh, thoughtful take on vampire lore ... Coryn Noble delivers a gripping, character driven story that explores what it truly means to be human or a monster.
